DIY Burlap Table Runner

After I finished my dining room table re-do,(Shown Here) I started to get a little squirrely and decided that the table still needed a little sumthin' -sumthin'. That's when I came up with this idea to make a burlap table runner to place on top.

And you may ask-  how exactly,  Miss Lori Ann, did you make this burlap table runner?

Well, Here's what I did:
I basically ordered my burlap online from Hobby Lobby (using my 40% off coupon), then washed it on the delicate cycle in the washing machine and hung it out on the line to dry.  After it was dry, I ironed it to get some of the wrinkles out. (a little wrinkling gives the burlap a nice worn look)

To figure how much material I needed, I measured the length of my table- then added about 20 inches to create a 10 inch overhang on each end. Then, I cut the Burlap.

The fringe around the edge was created by pulling out the burlap strands- one at a time from around the outside edges of the burlap.

I was left with a whole mess of burlap strands from fraying the edges, so I decided to make a centerpiece by tying the strings around some of my old glass bottles used as flower vases.

Overall, I'd have to say that I'm quite tickled by how easy to make and budget friendly this table runner was. It also added a nice finishing touch to my Dining Room table and chair make-over.

I hope this idea inspires some of you Do-it-yourself-er's out there!

My Sour Cream Sugar Cookies Won a Blue Ribbon!

When I think of Blue Ribbons, I think of County Fairs and Really Good Cooks.

I love both.

I'm not sure if I would have considered myself an award winning Cookin' Momma though.

Sure makes me happy that someone did.

A great big Thank you is in order for Miss Janet & Crew at the Just A Pinch Test Kitchen.  They tried my recipe for Aunt Gail's Sour Cream Sugar Cookies and they liked it so much they decided to award me a pretty Blue Ribbon!

I felt amazed and humbled when I read this review from the Just a Pinch:

"Two men in my life - my son and grandson - are going to be begging for these cookies.  They love the soft cookies that you get at the grocery store, and these are even better! I better start pre-heating the oven now..."   Janet, Hostess Just a Pinch Recipes.com

It feels good to know that someone else loves these cookies as much as my family does!

Oh, Happy Day.

Homemade Saucepan Brownies

I do not know what is up with my oh my jeez chocolate cravings lately.

I've made these moist & chewy brownies 3 times this week.

Count them.

3,  THREE, Tres.....  times.

What's up with that?

I can understand feeling the urge to bake one, or even two batches of these (get the baggy pants out) brownies.

Ain't nobody's waistline got room fo' dat.

But they are soooo good.  And bad.  At the same time.

You'll soon see why when you read the first ingredient(s).

And the brownie batter is mixed together right in your saucepan.
How easy is that?

Easy Homemade Saucepan Brownies
                                                                                                       Print Recipe
  • 2 Sticks Butter
  • 4 Heaping Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1 Cup Chopped Nuts, Optional

Preheat oven to 350 Degrees.  Grease a 9x13 inch pan.  Melt butter & cocoa together in saucepan over medium heat.  Remove pan from heat and stir in sugar.  Add eggs, stirring in one at a time.  Beat well.  Stir in flour and vanilla, and optional nuts.  Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 22 minutes.
**Note**  Brownies will seem like they are not done when you take them out of oven.  They will continue to bake after removed from oven.  Do not over bake, they will be dry!

Indulge & Enjoy
